Are blade soakers necessary?
*The metal of your blades will continue to create condensation for up to 6. hours after you get off the ice, this is why you need soakers to continuously. wick away the moisture. -If you live in a particularly humid climate, you may still exerpience some spotty rusting, even with soakers.
Their main function is to absorb moisture from the blades after your skating session. It is crucial to wipe your blades after each skating workout.
However,no matter how thoroughly you wipe your blades, the contrast between the room temperature and the ice skating rink temperature will cause more condensate to appear on your skates after you store them in the bag.
Leftover moisture is a negative factor which triggers rust and fast blunting of your blades. Soakers for speed skates are designed to capture any leftover moisture from your blades keeping them dry and properly protected.
Note we also recomended that you remove the soakers once home and let both the soakers and blades air dry.
